“The introduction of the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers is an important factor in our operational environment policy. “
Roland Hermann and Karl-Heinz Bohl,
Managing Directors, Salzburg Airport
Salzburg is the only airport in Austria to achieve International and European environmental certification. (EMAS and ISO 14.001) An important part of this successful environmental management is the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer which dries hands in 10 seconds, draws just 1600 watts and removes over 99.9% of bacteria from the air before it reaches hands.
Environmental management is an important topic for Salzburg airport, along with constantly improving service and managing cost. That means investing in new technology; protecting the environment and working towards a sustainable way of operating. “Time is a really important factor in the airport business. With the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer we’re able to deal with large numbers of passengers quickly. The machine’s HEPA filter purifies air before it reaches hands – which also contributes to the hygiene of the washrooms,“ explains Managing Director Roland Hermann. The airport has recently installed 30 Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers in its arrivals, departures and offices.
Prior to them, paper towels were used. But these created rubbish and needed staff to restock them. They also took up a lot of storage space and were expensive. By using Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers, 5.9 tons of waste paper have been saved from being thrown away. Not to mention the annual carbon emissions involved in their manufacture and supply. “Regarding environmental targets, as a dynamic business we’re really interested in sustainable technology that lowers costs and consumption of raw materials. This new hand drying system has exceeded our expectations and demonstrates good design, we’re saving large amounts of CO2 and it fits in well with our understanding of the environment,” Alexander Klaus and Claudia Typelt, Estate Managers, Salzburg Airport.
